Drama Major

Courses span many programs and departments, including dance.

Courses

The Drama Major draws courses from a range of departments in Weinberg, the School of Communication , and the School of Music . With the exception of independent study registrations, the Drama Major offers no courses of its own, but rather enables students to design their own programs by accessing courses across existing departments and schools.

Each year the director circulates a list of courses that count toward the Drama Major. However, the list is not exhaustive, and students may consult with the director about the eligibility of additional courses. Majors are strongly urged to meet with the director at least twice during each academic year in order to plan their schedules.

In a typical year, diverse departments in Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences offer from 20 to 30 courses that count toward the Drama Major. Faculty in Theatre, Dance, Musicology, and Performance Studies offer an additional 20 to 30 courses that fulfill core requirements in the history, theory, and analysis of theatrical performance.

Virtually all other courses in Theatre, Dance, Music, and Performance Studies may count toward core requirements in the arts and crafts of performance. The only exception is the acting curriculum, which is limited to students majoring in Theatre. However, Drama Majors may enroll in Acting for Non-Majors.
