Career Paths

Whether students pursue only the Drama Major or double-major either within Weinberg or across schools, they develop broad knowledge and skills as a foundation for their future careers.

One recent graduate, after a stint in the Peace Corps, enrolled in a doctoral program in dramaturgy. Another secured a fellowship to study theatre for community development in India, combining his adjunct major in International Studies with the Drama Major. Yet another graduate studied to become an arts therapist, combining her pre-med curriculum with her Drama Major. Other graduates from the program have secured positions at the American Repertory Theatre in Boston, the Long Wharf Theatre in New Haven CT, and Joffrey Ballet Chicago.

In other words, Drama Majors pursue a variety of careers. Some graduates apply their skills of critical reading, writing, and thinking to fields as diverse as business or law. Other graduates remain within the field and work in their chosen metier--whether as directors, designers, or dramaturgs; as managers of theatres or arts organizations; or as critics and teachers. All of these career paths require forethought; some require graduate study, while others develop from volunteer internship to paid position. The director is available to consult with students on their post-graduation plans as well as on their course of study while at Northwestern, including internships and Study Abroad.
